Thank you SO much for all your comments last page. You have no IDEA how reassuring it is to know that people are willing to buy my complete own CREATION! a heartbeat. The number may be small, but...really, it makes my heart swell. I feel like I'm gunna cry.

Anyways, that said, I do not like this page much at all. :/ I messed up with the perspective in 2 (as usual), and it was REALLY hard trying to get the radio text readable yet nearly unnoticeable. Oh, and I REALLY hate seatbelts. I've forgotten to draw Asa with that thing on like at least 4 times in these few pages. :X Hey, I come from a place where after you're 18, it's an option to wear seatbelts. Kay? Kay.

I probably shouldn't have had that last bit on this page. It's too much jokey for this seriousness. ;D

Anyways, can YOU get the random kinda cameo art here!?

Seat belts are optional after a certain point where you come from? Wow, that's unusual (from my perspective, at least).

OH MY GOD I'M GETTING PUBLISHED! GOd I'm having a hard time even typing right now, I'm shaking so bad right now!

So, uh, for those who haven't been keeping in touch with me, I've been working on Enigmatic Star, right? I have a good bit of pages done, and I was seriously considering self publishing because I wanna sell at AAC and I've been waiting to hear back from Nintendo for some rights to actually do it because I don't want to be shut down.

I just got word back from them. I'm literally freaking out HARD right now. I can't even believe it, this has to be a joke...

Dear Ms. Hikara (substituted for my actual last name),

Thank you for all the time that you have taken interest into our games. It is always a pleasure to hear from the fans of a particular game, especially one as long-running as the Pokemon series.

We have placed considerable thought into all of the art you have shown us, as you are asking for publication. We have also taken the time to read through some of your manuscripts for the comic, as well as study some of your portfolio pieces concerning Pokemon. I think it is only fair to give our mind on the following subjects:

The artwork itself has a very inconsistent nature. It seems that you struggle early on with children proportions, different views of the character, and a very fundamental lack of line weight save a few pages. While this could hurt your potential selling crowd, you are a young artist, something that few would overlook.

There is also the issues of having a screentonist working for you. You mentioned him only briefly; it doesn't seem that you know him too well. Would he be getting paid a portion of profits for his work? This could cause legality issues down the road.

Of utmost importance, however, is the fact that you use several places, characters and general Nintendo-trademarked memorabilia in your comic. This is expected in a fan comic, but copyright issues need to be thorougly talked through and through with you personally.

Regardless of the facts listed above, we have taken deep interest into your comic. Assuming you are able to improve some of the aforementioned problems with your artwork, we could give you two options; Not only would we be able to give a legal, written document claiming your right to self-publishing, but you could collaborate with us and have the story published through us as well. Some changes would have to be made to the storyline, given the level of thought needed to understand the themes of the story are college-grade, but we would like to encourage creativity in all generations of gamers.

Contact stuff is written here!

Once again, thank you for your time and interest in our company.

Really!? Wow I didn't know something like pubishing could be asked to Nintendo of America.
Are your comic goint to be showed in any Nintendo magazine or you'll get the rights for printing the pages by yourself?
You lucky bastard (I'm talking in a good sense XD), can't wait to see the whole thing in paper if you can afford some photos.

Shiny pokemons!!, March 31st, 2010, 9:20 am

Popularity Rules! YAY! Your comic must be very popular for nintendo to notice it among many others.

spudwalt (Guest), March 31st, 2010, 10:44 pm

Wow, that's awesome! Good for you! Hopefully you can go through all the publication stuff with a minimum of hassle!

Crystal Hikara, April 1st, 2010, 11:05 am

;_; Oh man, you guys are so awesome. There's like so many replies and everything! I don't even know how to respond...

BTW, I scanned in the letter. You can read it here.

You're all suckers. :D

Yes, that's right. Haven't you happened to notice the closeness of the date to April 1st? Come ON!

Hehe, wanker.

In all seriousness, here are the truths- and lies- of my elaborate scheme.

-I am actually going to send out a letter to Nintendo very shortly (though I'm unsure how to even begin yet) concerning rights to self-publish Enigmatic Star.
-Nintendo, from what I've gathered, is actually REALLY cool with fan stuff. I've heard this from quite a few sources by now (including a Gamestop guy that doesn't EVEN PLAY GAMES), so if that rumor has some truth to it, I'm going to take my chances with the company.
-Seth is actually a manager for Nintendo marketing stuff. :3 He is NOT fictional.
-I already know that I DO have those issues with my comic. They come from many many remarks I've gotten from it and the fact that I look at the pages and see it for myself. I will be fixing these pages before I attempt publication, because I'm incredibly perfectionistic like that. ;X
-I do have a screentonist working for free for me right now, who goes by Momo. I don't really know too much about the guy, other than he does really good toning work. Since I'd be selling this, it would get complicated with profit (HA!) rights with Momo, so I'd plan on actually making the comic color.

The biggest one is that Nintendo would actually even consider publishing this (obviously). This amounts to several factors:
-...the biggest being Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji's Rescue Team. This comic has been published by VIZ, and was also published in the pages of Nintendo Power. With one Mystery Dungeon comic already out, why on EARTH would they want to publish another one?
-I'd totally NOT be cool with them asking to tone the subtle themes of the story down. At all. The story is the heart of the comic, and if you mess with that, in my mind, it all falls apart. :B
-I never did send a letter. ;D
-I do doubt Mr. Seth would take the time to respond personally to me. He's a busy man! I just pulled his name and title off of an episode of Nintendo Week on my Wii. >D
-Because my art is sub-par in the comic industry, I know for certain someone with as little experience (and as few comics) as myself can successfully get published so easily. ;0
-I reacted completely differently than I think I would, to a point. I'd be MUCH more nervous than bouncing off the walls. I'm extremely insecure and paranoid of getting my artwork out there, and getting it published. It may not seem that way, but trust me, I'd be freaking out in not so good of a way.
-Not gonna lie, I partially did this to attract more attention to my comic. I was getting sick of having to double/triple post updates. Hey, two birds, one stone!

Man, you guys fell for this almost as hard as the person that claimed gullible actually WAS in the dictionary. :D

In all seriousness, I will be hopefully contacting Nintendo sometime in the future (probably when I have Chapter 1 all inked out), so if you are actually interested in buying a comic, I'll keep people updated in my comic thread. There will be many many good benefits to buying a comic, trust me, including all color pages, free signatures and potential shout-outs in the future volumes. ;D I wonder how many of you believe me when I say this. Seriously. ;D

Also, thanks to Zyflair, my accomplice of awesome, who helped me to account for some potential issues in believability in the story and whom also stickied this for a short time so more people would notice it ;D *high-fives!* I'll be lettin' you know when ES V.1 comes out and I'll send you a signed copy. ^^

Happy April Fool's Day, everyone!

*quickly dashes off for a week to avoid the rage of the tricked*

spudwalt (Guest), April 1st, 2010, 12:47 pm

Oh, yeah. It's April Fools. Derp.

Paylos, April 5th, 2010, 11:25 am

u_queen, April 9th, 2010, 12:45 am
